The dental implant procedure

At Quest Dental Care in Ipswich, our implant surgeons are ready to guide you through the implant process. From your initial consultation to the final reveal of your new smile, they ensure a smooth process.

Step 1: Dental Implant Consultation

At this appointment, our implantologist will conduct a thorough assessment of your mouth, gums and bite and present you with available dental implant treatment options. This appointment may also include X-rays, CBCT scans, digital smile design, cost quotes, and a discussion of dental financing.

Step 2: The Implant Procedure

Depending on whether you want implants under sedation or local anaesthetic, you will be sedated or numbed with anaesthetic so you feel completely comfortable during the procedure. If you’re receiving a full set of implants (All-on-4), you can expect your teeth to be immediately loaded at the end of this appointment.

Step 3: Healing and Osseointegration

Our patients report minimal discomfort after the procedure. At this stage, you will have received post-surgery instructions and after-care tips. Our team will contact you in the next couple of days to check on the healing process and answer any questions you may have. During the healing period and while the implant is fusing to the bone, we are always available to provide advice and review appointments at no extra cost.

Step 4: Placing the Implant Crown

Once osseointegration is complete (3-6 months) and the implant is stable in the bone, we can finally place the crown, thus completing the implant procedure. Leaving you with a fully restored, healthy smile.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“I’ve had a great experience with Quest over the past year. I’ve had an implant replace one of my front teeth, and the long process has been completed really professionally by Dr Payal and Chernette. As well as being professional and excellent at their jobs, they have always been very friendly and welcoming, ensuring I understood everything being done. I hope to never need another implant, but if I do, I wouldn’t hesitate to use Quest again!” Sam, Suffolk

Guide to dental implants

Mimicking natural teeth closely, dental implants are a blend of science and artistry.

Think of dental implants as a 3-part system designed to replace your missing teeth: a lightweight titanium screw, an abutment, and a crown. The small titanium post (the implant) is inserted into the jawbone to serve as an active replacement for not just the tooth, but the root, too.

Once the implant has been positioned and healed, the treatment is completed with a dental crown that looks just like a real tooth that is connected on top.

The implant: A biocompatible titanium screw that’s surgically placed into your jawbone. Over time, it fuses with the surrounding jawbone, providing a strong foundation for the replacement tooth to withstand natural biting pressures. It typically takes 3 months for the bone to fuse through a process called osseointegration.

The abutment: Acts as a connector between the crown and the implant. This is placed on top of the implant once it is fully fused with the jawbone.

The crown: The final component of the treatment. We use high-quality materials, such as zirconia, which is among the strongest available (ideal for back teeth). Dental crowns are placed approximately three months after the dental implant is placed. Crowns are shade-matched to surrounding teeth, ensuring your replacement tooth blends with your existing smile.

Regular visits to the Hygienist are essential to maintain the health of your implants, crowns, or bridges. Schedule your hygienist appointment today.

  • Feel just like natural teeth in both appearance and function
  • Prevents a sunken facial structure
  • You don’t have to worry about speech issues or slipping dentures
  • Dental implants prevent bone loss, gum shrinkage and tooth movement
  • Dental implants can last up to 30 years (or a lifetime)
  • No elaborate maintenance is required, just brushing and flossing

Dental implants are generally a safe & effective tooth-replacement option. While they do involve a minor surgical procedure, success rates are often high when you choose a qualified dentist with experience in high-quality biocompatible implants. You’ll be assessed for any risks during a consultation, during which we’ll take CBCT scans to ensure the correct bone depth.

For our patients who want to reduce anxiety during the treatment, we offer IV sedation (intravenous sedation), which will keep them conscious during the procedure but completely relaxed.

With IV sedation, you feel sedated almost immediately as the sedatives are introduced via the veins, leading to quick absorption. As it's a stronger form of sedation, our team of highly qualified (General Medical Council) registered doctors will care for you. You will be closely monitored throughout your appointments to ensure safety and comfort.

A bone graft is a surgical procedure performed for patients with insufficient jawbone structure, which, with certain implant types, is essential. The bone graft procedure strengthens the bone by using synthetic bone graft material in areas with low bone strength and density, making dental implants possible for your case.

Whether a bone graft is required depends on the X-ray and the Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scan results. Don’t worry if you need one. Bone grafting is a common, straightforward procedure that our dentists are highly experienced in.
