Hygiene appointments at Quest

At Quest Dental, your comfort is our priority.

If you’re particularly sensitive, our hygienists will take extra care to keep your appointment as comfortable as possible.

We use gentle ultrasonic instruments to lift plaque and tartar with less scraping and noise, and we are happy to work at your pace. If you need a break, we’ll take one, and we’ll check in as often as needed.

We’re open from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, Monday to Saturday at Great Colman St, Ipswich IP4 2AA.

The two types of hygiene sessions we offer:

At Quest Dental, our team has extensive experience in preventing, managing and treating gum disease. We offer two types of hygiene appointments: one for routine cleaning and maintenance, and another for patients showing more advanced signs of gum disease who need more targeted support.

After each appointment, we’ll provide personalised guidance on maintaining good oral health for your condition between visits, including special brushing and flossing techniques to make at-home care easier, faster and more effective.

If you’re unsure which appointment type you need, we can guide you when you book to ensure you’re scheduled in the right session. Call 01473 597527.

Professional Scale and Polish appointment from £79

Our standard hygiene appointments are 30 minutes long and, when scheduled regularly (every 3-6 months), help keep your gums healthy by removing typical plaque and tartar buildup.

During this appointment, our hygienists will assess your gums for inflammation, swelling, and bleeding, and will target any areas that show signs of a thorough scale and polish.

Periodontal therapy with root planing from £139

If you’re experiencing advanced symptoms of gum disease or have a significant buildup of plaque and tartar, our dentists and hygienists have collaborated to create a more thorough hygiene appointment to address your serious concerns. Our periodontal therapy with root planing session is approximately 1 hour, giving the hygienist ample time to address all problematic areas.

By booking a deeper clean, we can tailor your visit to a single session rather than spread it across multiple hygiene sessions over multiple months. This type of appointment is more effective as it gives the hygienist more time to work on your gums, helping us to return your mouth to a healthier state more quickly.

A better hygiene experience with Airflow

At our practice, our hygienists use Airflow (AIRFLOW® Prophylaxis Master), a gentle, non-invasive professional cleaning solution that uses a controlled stream of warm water, air, and fine particles to remove plaque, surface stains, and biofilm more comfortably from below the gum line.

It’s also particularly effective at keeping teeth clean and healthy, with orthodontics, implants, and other restorations. Plus, it’s great at blasting surface stains and freshening the breath. Recommended for sensitive teeth.

How to tell if you need a hygiene appointment urgently

If you’re currently experiencing or noticing any of the symptoms below, it’s a good idea to book a hygiene session as soon as possible.

You may be experiencing early signs of gum disease or significant plaque and tartar buildup, both of which require professional attention.

  • Bleeding when brushing or flossing (even if it’s only occasional)
  • Bad breath that won’t go away, despite brushing and mouthwash
  • Sore, puffy, or tender gums, or gums that look red/inflamed
  • Throbbing or irritating gums
  • Sensitivity around the gumline, especially when brushing or eating/drinking
  • Visible tartar build-up (hard deposits) or a “fuzzy” feeling on teeth
  • Staining from tea, coffee, wine, or smoking that brushing can’t shift
  • It’s been 6–12 months (or longer) since your last professional clean

Don’t delay your appointment. Bleeding, puffy gums, and persistent bad breath are telltale signs of deteriorating gum health. If left untreated, these symptoms can lead to more severe issues, including gum recession, bone loss, and even tooth loss.

It takes just half an hour for our expert hygienist in Ipswich to professionally clean your teeth, helping you achieve and maintain excellent oral health.

Guide to dental hygiene

Our Ipswich team recommends seeing a dental hygienist every 6 months, though frequency may vary based on individual oral health needs.

At Quest Dental Ipswich, we offer direct access to dental hygienists, meaning you can book a hygiene appointment with us even if you are not a regular patient at our practice or have not been referred to by a dentist.

A hygiene treatment, including a scale and polish, is typically painless. Many patients receive treatment without requiring local anaesthetics because our hygienists use gentle techniques. However, if you have deep gum pockets or sensitivity, we can administer a local anaesthetic to ensure your comfort.

Yes, dental hygiene visits can effectively prevent bad breath. Bacteria that grow beneath the gum line are the primary cause of halitosis. During your visit, our hygienist will thoroughly clean your gums and provide guidance on preventing bad breath. While many factors contribute to bad breath, including poor oral hygiene, lifestyle choices, and smoking, regular visits to your Ipswich dental hygienist can help identify the source and provide valuable guidance on maintaining your oral health.
